Sheepeater Indian Petroglyphs - Torrey Basin, WY

Heading from Dubois Wyoming on Highway 287
we turn off the main highway and travel about 9-10 miles on
gravel but very rough road to explore Petroglyphs.

Petroglyphs
Rock art—which includes both images carved into stone called petroglyphs and those painted onto rock known as pictographs—can be found throughout Wind River Country. Ranging from simple chipped pictures of bighorn sheep and human figures to abstract shields and other unidentifiable objects, this art dates back to the earliest days of human habitation.

Our travel takes us past three lakes-
Torrey, Ring and Trail Lakes.
We park at Trail Lake area in the
Torrey Basin and begin on foot.
This is a partial view of the Ring Lake Ranch

Judy Steve Betty and I start our
climb up to find petroglyphs of
Mountain Shoshone Indians also called
Sheepeater Indians for the obvious

Steve and I move laterally across the ridge

Next up is our exit from Torrey Basin south
of Dubois Wyoming. The beauty of this area
if unique and breathtaking.
