Midway Geyser Basin

Rudyard Kipling, who visited Yellowstone in 1889, immortalized this basin by referring to it as "Hell's Half Acre
 
 
Excelsior Geyser Crater
The geyser was active in the 1880's and again
in 1985 briefly. Water spouted over 300feet
when it was active. Today it
discharges over 4000 gals per minute into the
Firehole river at 199 degrees F
