Shown here is an old picture of a
"tie hack" atop railroad ties.
Dubois industry in earlier years
was mainly tie hacking - creating railroad ties
from trees in the Windy River and Dubois area.
It's recorded that "hacks" were paid 3 cents a tie.
A good tie hack could hew 300-310 ties per day.
Brawn counted alot.

Before we left Dubois WY
we had lunch at the Cowboy Cafe
You can see the folks heading in
and the food was great!
Next stop is outside Dubois WY off
Highway 287. Once off the main road
we will travel approx 10 miles on some
very rough roadway passed 3 lakes,
Torrey, Ring and Trail lakes. At the
Trail lake area we will park and explore
for Sheepeater (Mountain Shosone indians) Petroglyphs.
