Piedras Blancas Light Station and Elephant Seals, California

The Piedras Blancas Light Station was built and first
illuminated in February 1875 to aid sailor navigation. It had
a visibility potential of 19-20 miles. In 1906 a fog signal audio sound
was added to further aid maritime. Today it is managed by
Bureau Land Management.

Looking toward the Light Station
from the Elephant Seal Rookery.
We did not visit the Light Station up close.

Seals are alive but resting.

There are some seal pups in the above however
remember they were born in January/February timeframe

Elephant Seals close to Hearst Castle
and San Simeon CA

There were over 400 seals along this ocean stretch in the 1990's.
Today the population is over 17000 elephant seals.

We arrived on July 7, 2014 and the population is less than breeding season but many still gather here in the summer.

Below is a webcam link "live"
The seal pups are born during late January and
early February.

Notice how populated the beach is from July when we were there.

Morro Bay California

Morro Bay California is in San Luis Obispo County. The rock formation just off shore
is a landmark for all to see. We saw part of it due to fog the day we travelled by it.
I have included some other images of better quality.

Morro Bay resident and his horse.
He said you can ride your horses on
the beach.
