Fountain Paint Pot Trail

Fountain Paint Pot Area is within the
Lower Geyser Basin. There are four types of hydrothermals.
They are geysers, hot springs, mudpots and fumaroles

The trail is a boardwalk tour of 1/2 mile, easy to navigate.
Water temperatures are as hot as 167 degrees F.

Mudpots - composed of clay minerals
and fine silica. By late summer
these mudpots become very thick
and their bubbles can actually lob mud over
the boardwalk rails

A fumarole which has a hissing
and roaring sound. It smells.
Define it as a vent in the surface of
the Earth from which hot smoke and gases escape.
